JUNE ANNETTA JONES LAND, age 81, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at her residence in Charleston.
She was born June 13, 1936 in Charleston to Robert C. and Minnie G. Monroe Jones. A member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, she was a graduate of Charleston High School. Following graduation, she accepted a position in the Department of Agriculture with the U.S. government in Washington, D.C, and later was employed with the Department of Navy before being inducted into the CIA. Following the Cuban Missile Crisis she requested discharge from service and found employment in St. Louis as a secretary for an attorney until accepting a position as personal assistant with Olin Industries. After working several years at Olin, she then worked in a stockbroker's office before taking time off to be a homemaker and mother. After several years, she returned to work accepting a position with the State of Missouri in the Department of Youth Services where she remained until retirement. She became bookkeeper for her husband's company, C. Leon Land Floor Company, in Ferguson and continued in that position following their return to Charleston in 2002.
On December 31, 1968 she married C. Leon Land who survives of the home.
Also surviving is one daughter and son in law, Noel and Michael Roeder of St. Louis; one sister, Hazel (Foide) Williams of Charleston; two grandchildren, Nathan Roeder and Allison Roeder both of St. Louis; and two nieces Becky Hearnes and Beth Bays.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Presnell Jones.
According to her wishes, her body was donated for medical research to Washington University School of Medicine.
