John Wilbur Lindsay Goodin Jr., 56, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021, in his home in Charleston, MO, surrounded by his family.
Born July 13, 1965, in Sikeston, MO, he was the eldest son of John Wilber Lindsay Goodin and Clyda Sue Oliver Goodin. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1983 and continued his education at Mississippi State University and Southeast Missouri State University.
A lifelong resident of Charleston, Lindsay was baptized in the United Methodist Church, and later converted to Catholicism to become an active parishioner at St. Henry Catholic Church.
As a 7th generation farmer, Lindsay operated Goodin & Company, his family farm in Southeast Missouri.
On August 17, 1991, he married Monica Yvette Horton. They raised four children together and celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this year.
Lindsay had many interests including
music, books, movies, history, and good food, but the most important thing to Lindsay was his role as a husband and father. He passed on his many interests and passions to his children, integrating himself in every aspect of their lives. He prioritized education and instilled the importance of good work ethic through gardening, canning, and raising pigs and chickens to feed the family. Lindsay was a supportive husband to Monica, and was the strength and backbone of his family.
Including his wife, Monica, he is survived by his four children: Scarlett Miles Goodin of Jacksonville, Florida; Gretta Darby Goodin Rolwing and husband Heath Patrick Rolwing of St. Louis; Isabella Lindsay Goodin of Murray, KY; and Dearmont Vernon Goodin of Charleston. His mother, Clyda Sue Oliver Goodin of Charleston; brother and sisters, Tristan Oliver Goodin of Foley, AL; Margaret Elizabeth Goodin of St. Louis, and Virginia Grace Estelle Goodin Potashnick and husband John Douglas Potashnick of St. Louis. Also his niece and nephew, Margaret Lilly Elizabeth Potashnick and Nicholas Goodin Potashnick.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert Vernon Goodin, III, Virginia Elizabeth Whitehead Goodin Ridings, John Davis Ridings, Howard Dearmont Oliver and Margaret Rush Oliver.
The parish prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Visitation will then be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, with Father David Dohogne, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment will follow on the Goodin Family Plot at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Brink, Shannon Butler, Charles LaPlant, David Malugen, James Marshall, Ethan Oliver, Hunter Rafferty, Stephen Story and Daren Vowels.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Arnold Brewer, Sammy Miller and Johnny Scott.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: "Dogwood Trees for Charleston" and mailed to: 515 North Main Road, Charleston, MO 63834.
