Katherine Sutherland Nelson, Age 89, of Charleston, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Paragould, Arkansas.
She was born on November 1, 1923, in Houston, Mississippi, to W.R. Davis Sr. and Clara (Soule) Davis. She had lived in Charleston most of her life where she was Secretary of the National Compress. Throughout her life Katherine enjoyed fishing, canning, cooking and spending time with her family. She served as President of American Legion and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of Charleston United Methodist Church.
On February 15 1946, Katherine married Buford Sutherland, in Charleston, MO, who preceded her in death January 25, 1987. On November 29, 1991, Katherine married Welton Nelson, from Selma, AL., who preceded her in death in 2003.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Sandra and Charles Harper of Paragould, AR; stepson, Sonny Nelson and wife Jobeth of Selma, Al; sister, Annette Culpepper of Kennett, MO; her grandchildren, Dee Harper and his wife Jennifer; Scott Sutherland Palmer and his wife Jan; Perry Harper, K.C. Nelson, Leslie Nelson and his wife Christina; and Jennifer Nelson Gordon and husband Michael; her great grandchildren, Rachel and Will Harper, Adyson and Noah Palmer, Grace Gordon, Katherine Hope and Brenlee Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son Donald Ray Sutherland and his wife Jan Fowlkes Sutherland Palmer; one brother W.R. Davis Jr. and one sister Patricia Davis Carr.
Visitation will be Thursday November 15, 2012 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. Rev. Dan Faust, pastor and her grandson, Dee Harper, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Artie Culpepper, Bill Davis, Kent Sutherland, Richie Sutherland, Buz Sutherland, Paul Hill, Clay Dugan and Mike Finch.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the coffee group from Libbys Country Kitchen in Charleston.
