KATRINA MARIE 'KATIE' HUNTER, age 36, beloved daughter of Bill and Vonna Hunter of Charleston, died Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Katie was born December 16, 1985, at Davenport, Iowa. She is survived by her parents, William and Vonna Halford Hunter of Charleston; two sisters, Carla Marchant of Charleston and Kelly Hunter of St. Louis, and a brother, Theodore (Skye) Hunter of Phoenix, Arizona.

She is also survived by a grandfather, aunts, uncles, a nephew, and cousins.

Katie was a member of the Charleston High School class of 2004 where she graduated with honors and was active in the band program and athletics. After high school Katie attended Southeast Missouri State University and studied Early Childhood Education.

Katie then followed her life-long dream of working with children by working for the Charleston R-1 School District and the Charleston United Methodist Church Nursery and Sunday School programs.

Katie is survived by the numerous children which she helped and nurtured as a kindergarten and special services aide and as a nursery attendant and Sunday School teacher. It was this work with the children of the community that lead to her being named the Charleston Lions Club Woman of the Year in 2016.

Katie also had a love of animals and was responsible for providing home for countless dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and various other critters throughout her life.

Katie is also survived by her faithful K-9 companion, Kira.

Because of her love for children and of animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Katie's name to a childrens or animal charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until time of memorial services at 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 13, 2022, at United Methodist Church in Charleston.
