KENNETH T. McDOWELL, age 71, a resident of Corning, AR formerly of Charleston, died Monday October 6, 2014 at Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR.
He was born September 16, 1943 in Cape Girardeau to the late Wilson Clarence and Mildred Tant McDowell. A graduate of Anniston High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force in September 1962 serving during the Vietnam War until his discharge in September 1966. During his Air Force service he received recognition as a Sharp Shooter and as Airman of the Month. Following his discharge, he returned to Charleston and attended Barber training and worked at Henry's Barber shop with Henry Coffer. In 1971 he established McDowell Flying Service and was still active in crop dusting until ill health forced retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston.
On March 17, 2001 he married Glinda Darlene Haynes who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Tony McDowell of Port Allen, LA and Jamie McDowell of East Prairie; two daughters, Stephanie Parker and
Amy Dill both of East Prairie; one step son, Gene Haynes of Corning, AR; one step daughter, Teresa Kindred of Blodgett; one brother, Byron McDowell of Charleston; one sister, Carolyn Burcks of Charleston; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Martha Lou Boone preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home where Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014. Rev. Luke Gibson, pastor of the Tabernacle of the Lord Church in Townsville, SC will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Dan Haney, Rick Haney, John Haney, David McDowell, Jamie Conn, and Kenny Jones
Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Graveside Rites at the IOOF Cemetery. Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
