Obituary

Larry Samuel Loflin, 72, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Bertrand, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center with his family by his side from long term cardiac problems.

He was born September 14, 1943, at his home in Charleston, Missouri, the son of the late Charles and Lillian Linebaugh Loflin. He and Florene Pemberton were married on June 24, 1966.

Larry was a 1962 graduate of Charleston High School and a member of the Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. He loved people and eventually owned his own milk delivery service where he delivered milk door to door in Sikeston, Missouri, for 30 years before retiring. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and, eventually, spending as much time as possible with the greatest joy of his life, his grandson, Carson.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene Kuykendall of Bloomsdale, Missouri and Barbara Ellen Loflin of Charleston, Missouri.

Loving survivors, include his wife of 49 years, Florene; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Billy Baudendistel of Cape Girardeau; one treasured grandson, Carson Baudendistel of Cape Girardeau; a brother-in-law, Shirrel Kuykendall of Bloomsdale, Missouri, two sisters, Francis and Charlie Gentry of Memphis, Tennessee and Betty Owens of Villa Ridge, Illinois; two brothers, Glen and Beverly Loflin of Staunton, Illinois and Dennis and Joan Loflin of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and many other family and friends.

Because he was so grateful to the doctors and nurses that saved his life performing open heart surgery at Columbia Medical Center in 1964 to correct a congenital heart defect, Larry wanted to return that favor with a final gift of his own by giving an anatomical gift of his remains to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

A memorial service celebrating his life has been planned for June 25, 2016, at 10 AM at the Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church, 2826 Independence St, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, or the March of Dimes, 1775 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, New York, 10605.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
