Obituary

LARRY WAYNE THRESHER, 74, died Sunday, October 18, 2020, at his home near East Prairie.

Born May 20, 1946, to Alfreda McIllwain Thresher who survives of East Prairie,  and the late Floyd Thresher, he had lived in East Prairie most of his life. Larry worked as a journeyman welder for the Local 27 Boilermakers Union for 13 years. He joined AECI in New Madrid in 1987, as a journeyman welder and mechanic, where he worked for 21 years until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed growing watermelons, cantaloupes, pumpkins and mums for many years. After retirement, he joined his brother Gene to help him work on the farm. Aside from working on the farm, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandkids. Everyone who knew him knew he never met a stranger. He loved to talk and share his love for the Lord. He was a member of the First Church of God in East Prairie where he served on the ministry team. He was such a compassionate kind hearted soul and he will be truly missed.

On August 25, 1967, he married Sue Drummond, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children: Brent (Leslie) Thresher and Brooke (Jay) Childers; his grandchildren, Lawson Thresher, Blakelee Childers and Chase Childers, all of East Prairie; his brothers, Gene Thresher and Terry Thresher all of East Prairie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mickey Thresher.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the First Church of God in East Prairie. Pastor Dawn Walters and Bro. George White will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Joel Haddock, Darrel Williams, Duke Thresher, Keith Edwards, Stuart Bain and Kevin Walters.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Stallings, Billy Borders, John Dee Ray, Doug Copeland and Howard Bradley.

The family requests memorials be made to: American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association and or The First Church of God in East Prairie.
