Obituary

LAYMON TRUETT SIMMONS, Age 86, a resident of Charleston, died Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Charleston Manor.

He was born June 12, 1927, at Dover, Arkansas, to the late Henry and Lillie Barker Simmons. He was employed with the Howe Fire Apparatus Company in Anderson, IN for 27 years and moved to Russellville, AR in 1979, where he worked as a cross country truck driver. Then in 1983, he moved to Charleston where he was employed with Gates Rubber Company until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

On February 28, 1947, he married Betty Jean Council, who preceded him in death May 18, 1999.

Surviving is two sons, Ronald Simmons of Fort Mills, SC and Richard Simmons of Winter Haven, FL; two daughters, Pamela Teeters of Anderson, IN and Lisa (Delmar) Smothers of Charleston, MO; one brother, Charles Simmons of Atkins, AR; three sisters, Mary Dale Corbin of Russellville, AR; Bonnie Corbin of London, AR and Helen Hottinger of Dover, AR; eight grandchildren, including Jacob Smothers of Charleston, MO; and several great grandchildren.

Family and friends may assemble at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Charleston for graveside services. Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston and Rev. Mike McKinney, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow with full military rites provided by the U.S. Army and the Missouri Military Honors Program.
