LEE ANN PICKARD CULLISON, age 73, a resident of Charleston died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born September 23, 1943 in Kennett to Joseph Layton and Samantha Louise "Mancy" Dickey Pickard, the family moved to Charleston in 1963. Lee Ann was a graduate of Kennett High School where she was selected Homecoming Queen. She attended the University of MO at Columbia where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education then completed additional graduate work at Memphis State University. In 1977 she began teaching Kindergarten in the Charleston Public schools where she taught 30 years until her retirement in 2007. An active member of the Charleston United Methodist Church, she had served on numerous committees currently including the Family Life, Decorating, Bereavement Meal committees and was a member of the Sam & Jane Goodin Memorial Handbell Choir. She was a certified Master Gardener, a member of the Molly French Garden Club and served as a Board member for the Mississippi County Historical Society and the Community Sheltered Workshop.
On July 26, 1977 she married James E. Cullison who survives of the home.
Also surviving are five children, Laura Jones of Gallup, New Mexico, Michael Jones of Charleston, Suzy Cullison (Clayt) Mason of Atlanta,GA, Mary Cullison (Lance) Pruitt of Knoxville,TN, and Dr. James W. (Wendy) Cullison of Carrolton, GA ; one sister, Jane Pickard Morris of Venice, FL; 10 grandchildren, Layton Jones, Courtney Jones, Emma Jones, Cullison Mason, Nikkilee (Steven) Morris, Shelby (Austin) Collins, Riley Pruitt, Carson Pruitt, James Foster Cullison, and Waverly Cullison; two great grandchildren, Frankie May Morris and Mason Morris; and one niece, Sam Morris.
In addition to her parents, one brother, Joseph Layton "Joe" Pickard, and one uncle, Dr. Walter F. Gregory Dickey, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 1:00 p.m. Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor, will officiate. Rebel Story Dugan will serve as Eulogist.
Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mark Dugan, Randy Arington, Martin Stallings, Bart Stallings, Blair Moran, Reginald Young, and John Barrett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Sam & Jane Goodin Memorial Handbell Choir: Jane B. Young, Anna Marie French, Bettina Moxley, Linda Ault, Jeanne Burke, Susan White, Janet DeField, Mary Jane Whitehead, Faye Elliott, Tiffany Brantley, Ginger Logan, Jeannie Starr, Carol McDowell, and Jennifer Taylor.
