LURA LEONA LASTER, Age 87, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.
Born April 26, 1926, at Maynard, Arkansas, to the late William Gray and Sally Boyer Cockrum, she had lived in Charleston most of her life where she was employed at the Brown Shoe Company a number of years and in 1970, she and her husband opened J &L Upholstery Shop and operated it until they retired in 2000. She was a charter member of the Southside Baptist Church in Charleston where she had taught Sunday school and worked with the youth.
On July 21, 1945, she married John Junior Laster, who preceded her in death on August 20, 2005.
Survivors include one son, John Laster of Sikeston; one daughter, Georgia Russell of Cunningham, KY; one sister Jean Hinkle of Florida; five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her infant twin children, Roger Dale Laster and Dorothy Ellen Laster; two brothers, Noel Cockrum and Gerald Cockrum and four sisters, Mildred Greer, Faye Miller, Ola Cockrum and Bea Bogle.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2013. Rev. Mike McKinney, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Josh McKinney, Harold McClendon, Rocky Walker, Rocky Walker II, Don McCann and Travis McCann.
