Obituary

Lillie K. Suggs
(2/14/1925-2/26/2019)

Lillie K. Suggs, or "Babe", as most knew her, passed into heaven on Feb. 26, 2019. She was 94 years young…an end to an era.

Lillie K. Suggs was born Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1925, to Lillie and Fred Ganim. Lillie grew up in downtown St. Louis. In 1942, she married Frankie Suggs and he preceded her in death September 26, 1986.

Lillie and Frankie were very involved with Scouts. They were their children. During the week and on weekends, they were always doing something with "the boys". In fact, one activity involved walking from the nearby school to Busch Stadium, so they could enjoy a game. Both Lillie and her husband were recognized with the Silver Eagle Award due to their many hours and heartfelt services with the Scouts.

Lillie worked down the street at the Spice Shop in Soulard Market. And, we all know Lillie, or Babe, had a lot of "spice" in her so it was the perfect job.

Lillie was also active in and joined the Board of the New St. Marcus Cemetery in 1992, where the members still remember her and she will take her final rest. She loved all creatures, big and small, and she and Frankie often took in animals that had been abandoned. One time, Lillie even got steps for one of the dogs that could no longer hop up onto the couch. Those animals are buried in a pet cemetery in Byrnes Mill as well as at the New St. Marcus Pet Cemetery.

Lillie was a collector of many things and she definitely did her part to help save our Earth by "recycling" before it was "cool". She was always turning in cans, glass, or clothes to where they would be given another life. She was extremely creative and found many uses for items instead of throwing them away.

Lillie was determined, independent, head-strong, funny, loving, generous, thoughtful, and giving. She was very involved at church and organized a lot of the parties and holiday events. She wanted the families, but especially the children, to have fun. She even owned an Easter Bunny costume which she wore at church and to family Easter celebrations.

Lillie moved to Charleston, MO, to be closer to a friend's family and roots. She became active and involved with her church and neighbors.

She ultimately came to live at Charleston Manor where the people here became her family. Each of us who knew Lillie will always remember her with a smile and a laugh, for she was like no other…and we can all attest to that.

Angels wings, Lillie! You will be missed…
