Linda Kellett Collier
August 21, 1937 — February 22, 2017
Etha Linda Kellett Collier, age 79, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born on August 21, 1937, in Sikeston, Missouri, to the late Ferrell H. and Clara LaNell Jamieson Kellett. She had lived in Jackson, but spent most of her life in the Mississippi County communities of Bridges, Bertrand, and Charleston. She was also a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston. She was a 1955 graduate of Charleston High School and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She worked as an elementary teacher and substitute teacher and homemaker. She enjoyed her last years being a member of the Mississippi County Historical Society, the Molly French Garden Club and attending her grandchildren's many events. She was known as "Ninnie" by her grandchildren and all their friends.
On May 27, 1955, she married the love of her life, Claude Carroll Collier, who preceded her in death in August 15, 2002.
She is survived by a son, Kevin Collier (Brenda) of Malden; two daughters, Jill Burton of Charleston and Jennifer Hipp (Rob) of Wildwood, Missouri, and one daughter-in-law, Susan Collier of Charleston; six greatly loved grandchildren, Andrew Collier of Malden, Laura Burton of St. Louis, Nathaniel Burton (Jessica) of Scott City, Evan Burton of Charleston, Emily Hipp of Auburn, Alabama, and Ashley Hipp of Atlanta, Georgia; one beloved great grandson, Trenton Burton, who called her Mimi. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Kellett (Sue) of Jackson, and her sister-in-law Pat Seib of Poplar Bluff; as well as her nieces, nephews, and many close friends, including her high school friends, the JJJ's.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Esco and Corona Glaus Collier, one son-in-law, Joe Burton and one sister-in-law Billie Mattix.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2017, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017. Johnny Hester, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
