Obituary

Lois Faye Cokenour, 73, a life-long resident of Sikeston, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at her home in Sikeston.  She was born June 20, 1943 in Sikeston to the late Charles and Ora (Raines) Hazel.  On Sept. 27, 1963 she was married to Melvin L. Cokenour in Sikeston.  As a team, they participated and supported each other in various civic and social organizations.  She was the love of his life, and a loving mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor to us all.  Lois retired in 2016 as assistant City Treasurer.  She was office manager of Hart's Bread/Lewis Brothers Bakery until it closed.  Her participation in various civic and social organizations included Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) several times; District Deputy for OES; Grand Representative for the State of Missouri for OES; Officer in the White Shrine; member and Elder of Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church and church pianist; Board member of Sikeston Little Theater; member of Altrusa;  member of Red Hat social club, travel, cards (Bridge) and Bingo.  She was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Main Gate Condominiums and their treasurer; and was an avid Cardinal Baseball Fan.  Survivors include her husband, Melvin L. Cokenour; her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Renee Cokenour; her daughter, Debbie Cokenour of Atlanta; her 2 grandchildren Mitchell and Taylor Cokenour; 1 sister, Charlene Daniel of Mount Carmel, IL; and many nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Dock and Ruth Terrell and three brothers Robert "Buddy" Hazel, Junior Hazel and a baby at birth.  Visitation will  be at Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, March 21 from 11:00 am until time for funeral  services at 1:00 p.m.  with Rev. Tom Bass officiating.  There will also be an Eastern Star Service at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be David Hay, Doug Friend, Carroll Couch, Steve Bailey, Chuck Daniels, Mark Daniels, Robert Hazel and Brian McClellan.  Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to either Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church or to Sikeston Little Theater.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at blanchardfuneral.com.
