Mr. Luther Betts, Jr., transitioned to his heavenly home at 11:36 am on Monday, April 13, 2026, at OSF ST. Francis Medical Center.
Luther was born on April 20, 1955, in Charleston, Missouri to Luther, Sr., and Elsie Fannie (McGill) Betts.
Luther accepted Christ at an early age. He was a church going man who loved reading his bible daily. He was a member of St. Matthew Church in Charleston, MO which is also the city where he worked as a supervisor at Starks factory for many years. Before his illness, Luther loved lawn care and was an avid gardener. He had his own garden and sold his harvest and produce to his community. In 2016, Luther moved to Bloomington, IL to be in the loving care of his sister, Altheria Betts. She nurtured him throughout his illness. Luther loved making people laugh and solving puzzles at the adult daycare center he attended in Bloomington, IL. Everyone loved him there. Luther also enjoyed playing the lottery and watching basketball, football, Let’s Make a Deal, the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on TV.
Luther leaves to cherish his memory his son, Eric (Nikia) Goodin of Sikeston, MO; his sisters, Altheria Betts of Bloomington, IL, Maxine Betts and Justine Betts Tyler both of Orange County, CA, and Cynthia Betts Moore of Grandview, MO; one brother, Ronnie Gene (Celestine)Gordon, Sr., of Collinsville, IL; a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Ann Foster Brewer and Calestine Betts and two brothers, Floyd McGill and Dean Anthony Betts.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held in his hometown of Charleston, MO, at 12 Noon, Saturday, April 25, 2026 at McMikle Funeral Home, 201 S. Center Street, Charleston, MO. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at 11 am.
Luther will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery, Charleston, MO.
