Mae passed away on August 29, 2021, the same day Hurricane Ida assaulted Louisiana.
Mae loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. Mae loved working in her garden and was a member of the Master Gardeners in New Orleans, and she enjoyed making cakes for her family and friends, including many beautiful wedding cakes.
She grew up in Troy, Alabama and moved to Louisiana in 1964, where she resided for nearly 57 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Skinner Vernon, her father, Will Vernon, brothers Gay Vernon and Wilson Vernon, her husband, Murray Jones, her son, Barney Jones, and her granddaughter-in-law, Victoria Arcuri.
Mae is survived by her daughters, Gaye Arcuri and Leslie Jones; daughter-in-law Carol Jones; her grandchildren, Shaun Jones (Samantha), Jon Jones, Amanda Jones, and Jordan Arcuri; two great-grandchildren, Evan Jones and Ali Jones; and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Kenner, Louisiana, in the Fellowship Hall located at 1313 Clay Street.
Interment will be in Troy, Alabama, at a later date.
McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston, Missouri is in charge of arrangements.
