Obituary

Mamie Burton Cowger, age 89, of Sikeston, died July 24, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born August 23, 1933, in London, Arkansas, to the late Joe Pleasant Hampton Burton and the late Maggie Cochran Burton Dodd, she had lived in Sikeston most of her life where she was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ and had been employed there for 40 years.

On October 30, 1954, at Tunica, MS, she married James Robert Cowger, who preceded her in death on January 5, 2011.

Surviving are her three children, Sherry Lloyd, Kathy (Lonnie Ponder) Ray and James A. (Jeanne) Cowger, all of Sikeston; her grandchildren, Laura Ray, Summer (Jalen) Brown Ray, Ginny  (John Riley) Ray, Kyleigh (Kent) Chappell, Andrew (Tasha) Cowger, Mallory (Taylor) James and Baelei Lloyd; her great grandchildren, Kevin Ty Martin, Rylan Evans, Jada Ray Brown, Alexis Ray Lowe, Rayce Lowe, Kinleigh, Katelyn and Kolton Chappell, Kayden Kraft, Peyton and Kayson Cowger and Blanton and Lakelyn James.


In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Senciboy and her brothers, Herbert Burton, Junior Burton, William Burton, Marvin Burton and Gene Dodd.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the Shady Acres Church of Christ on Ables Road in Sikeston, MO, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 28, 2023.  Johnny Hester and Ronnie Senciboy will officiate.


Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Kevin Ty Martin, Ronnie Senciboy, Andrew Cowger, Kyleigh Chappell, Mallory James, Summer Ray, Laura Ray, Ginny Ray and Baelei Lloyd.


Honorary pallbearers will be: Mike Senciboy, Tommy Staggs, Wanda Hahn, Sandy Bollinger and Pam Eichhorn.

In lieu of flowers, plants and gift items, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
