Obituary

MARGARET LOIS WALKER, AGE 91, of Sikeston, died Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born July 10, 1929, at East Prairie, Missouri to the late Allie Jones and Ettie Mae Holland Jones.

Growing up in East Prairie, the family moved to Arizona in 1947 where she loved spending time at the airport and aspired to be an airline stewardess. But, the height restrictions kept her from achieving that dream. She moved back to Charleston in 1949 where she was employed with Ellis' Confectionary, and during that time met the love of her life, C.D. Walker , whose nickname for Margaret was "Shorty".

Thanks to her sister, Eva, she later got a job at "The Telephone Company" (Southwestern Bell) in Sikeston where they later moved. When the Sikeston office chose to close, she was given the option to retire or take a position within the company in Springfield , MO which she held until her retirement in 1987.  During that time, Margaret and C.D. maintained what we would now call a long - distance relationship, where she trav eled to Sikeston one weekend and C.D. would travel to Springfield the next . They managed to keep that up for 8 years. After her retirement, Margaret enjoyed Bingo and especially their travels to Branson, Gatlinburg and Panama City Beach.

She was a long-time and active member of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston and in recent years, she loved being with her Sunday School class, the Arbutus Class.

On June 7, 1953, she married Charles Denver "C.D." Walker, who preceded her in death on February 21, 2016.

Surviving is her son, Bruce Walker of Imperial; her grandchildren, Katie (Doug) Burthardt of Wentzville; Blake (Alexis) Walker of Arnold; Victoria (Kevin) Rogers of Asheville, NC and Kimberly Sanders of St. Louis; great grandchildren, Lily Walker, Austin Burthardt , Auggie Burthardt , and Ryl e e Nikolaisen and one to be born in April, Adalynn Walker.   Also surviving is her sister, Eva Watkins of California, MO.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia (Jenny) Bass.
