Obituary

MARIE A. CARSON MERRICK, Age 85, died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at her home in Charleston, Missouri.

She was born September 4, 1925 at Birta, Arkansas, to the late Albert S. and Alma Gaydon Carson Sr.. In 1933, she moved to Caruthersville and graduated from Caruthersville High School. Upon her graduation, she moved to the Chicago, IL area where she was employed with Kraft Foods and later with Crete Monee Schools. Though born and raised in the Missionary Baptist Faith, she converted to Catholicism at the time of her marriage.

In February of 1942, she married Perry Ryles Merrick, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2010.

Also surviving are two daughters and one son in law, Pamela Merrick and Michael R. Riviere of New Orleans, LA and Alma Ruth Cahanin of Aurora, IL; five grandchildren, Kathy Gross of Boling Brook, IL, Brian Cahanin of Willow Springs, IL, Kelly Peplansky of Batavia, IL, Michael C. Riviere and Chloe M. Riviere both of New Orleans, LA; six great grandchildren, Marie Kayser, Mallory Kayser, Douglas Cahanin, Tyler Cahanin, Kyle Peplansky, and Madison Peplansky.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Carson, Jr., and one sister Geraldine Carson.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Don Merideth of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Michael Riviere, Michael Carson Riviere, Brian Cahanin, Douglas Cahanin, Tyler Cahanin and Jeff Renaud.

The family would like to thank Wendy Pope and Jo Elma Carter for their extraordinary care of our mother and grandmother. An additional thanks are extended to the late Barb Miller, Cecil Scott and VNA Hospice, especially Linda Stokes and Emily Morgan and also to the Charleston community, specifically Jeff Renaud, Karen Hess, Shelley Stinnett, Kaye Teeters, Glenda Horton, Don and Janis Merideth and Mary Branum, who greatly assisted her daughters in providing long distance care.
