MARION DEVODRY OAKLEY, age 89 , a resident of Wyatt, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
He was born February 4, 1927 in Steele, MO to Walter and Allie Lessie Lee Ingould Oakley who preceded him in death. Following his discharge from the Navy, he lived in Imperial, CA where he was employed with JC Penny Co. for several years. In July 1955 he returned to Wyatt, MO to assist in managing the family business his Father started in 1948. With a keen mind for numbers, he became second generation to own and operate Oakley Grocery, a legacy now passed on to his son, Steven Wayne Oakley. He was an avid bowler and member of the Mississippi County Bowlers, and the SEMO Bowling League where he held the highest bowling league scratch average for many years. With his love for sports, he was an outstanding pitcher for area Fast Pitch Softball teams – throwing high speed pitches well into his 60's.
On May 10, 1944 he married Wanda Colleen Tompkins in Blytheville, AR who preceded him in death on January 19, 2010.
Surviving are four children, Marian Colena "Sissy" (Jim) Presson of Charleston, Steven Wayne (Linda) Oakley of Sikeston, Sandra Kay Johnson of Wyatt, and Stanley Walter (Susan) Oakley of Scott City; one sister, Dorothy Cargill of Collierville, TN; also 13 grandchildren, and a number of great and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lovone Oakley and Shirley Craigo; two brothers, Billy Ray Oakley and Paul Wayne Oakley; one son in law, Daniel Lee Johnson; and one great granddaughter, Lula Colleen Williams.
Visitation will be held in the McMikle Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM where Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Don Merideth of Charleston will officiate.
Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites at the IOOF Cemetery.
Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hartwick, Jeff Presson, Jim Presson Jr., Bernard Davis, Riley Fitzgerald Sr., Harry Oakley, Clay Eaves and Jeremy Riggs.
