Mark O. Hopper, age 59, formerly of Charleston, MO, died Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at his home in St. Louis, MO.
Born October 16, 1965, in St. Louis, MO, he was adopted by Chester O. and Helen Louise Burkett Hopper. A 1984 graduate of Charleston High School, Mark was active in many activities but especially excelled in the High School Choir and Swing Choir. He held several lead roles in the school musicals showcasing his tremendous baritone voice. Mark was raised in the original Elm Street Baptist Church where his maternal grandparents, the Burkett's, were charter members. He later attended the First Baptist Church in Charleston after being recruited to be member of the choir under the direction of former first lady of Missouri, Betty C. Hearnes, and also served as a choir soloist.
After graduating from Lindenwood University with a master's degree in business administration, Mark settled in St. Louis, where he was employed for many years as a broker, most recently with the Graybar Corporation.
Surviving is his father, Chester, of Charleston, Mo.; his sister, Louella Davis of Henderson, KY; nieces, Tonya and Tiffany; as well as several great nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Helen; his sister, Tammy Lou Hopper; his nephew, Benjamin Thomas "Ben" Hopper; his paternal grandparents, John and Vada Samons Hopper and maternal grandparents, Thomas Ira and Jimmie Dale Cozart Burkett.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
