Obituary
MARTIN STALLINGS, age 80, a resident of Charleston, died Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born January 29, 1937 in Charleston to Marshall Oliver and Nellie Kathryn Feezor Stallings. A graduate of Charleston High School, he attended University of Missouri before returning to Charleston where he was a farmer, landowner and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was one of the charter members instrumental in the establishment of Delta Growers Association Farm COOP. In addition to being an avid horseman and hunter, he was a 32 degree Mason, member of Masonic Lodge # 407 AF & AM, and had been involved in various agriculture related organizations and committees.
On December 3, 1960 he married Cora Sue Hutcheson who survives in Charleston.
Also surviving are two children, Susan (Andy) Wolfe of St. Louis and Bart (Lorraine) Stallings of Charleston; one brother, Floyd (Marilyn) Stallings of Charleston; three sisters, Evelyn (Delbert) Pruitt and Carol (Joe) Knudson all of Paducah, KY and Shirley Anderson of Charleston; eight grandchildren, Drew French, Caroline French, Dawson French, Chelsea Stallings, Carly Stallings, Catherine Pierson, Mollina Kwassivi, and Frank Stallings; also two great grandchildren, Bastien Kwassivi and Benjamin Pierson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Martin Jeffrey Stallings; one brother, John Oliver Stallings, and two sisters, Mary Drummond and Ruth Moore.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church on Friday, December 8, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be conducted in the First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 with the pastor, Rev. George Nite officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jim Burke, Emmett Burke, Reginald Young, Jim Cullison, Richard Galemore, William Glass, Mark Stallings, and Jack Feezor.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
