MARY GENE SMOTHERMAN BAKER, age 85, a resident of East Prairie died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.
She was born February 6, 1929 in Calloway County, KY to the late James H. and Bessie Wyatt Smotherman.
She had lived in East Prairie most of her life where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was employed for 42 years with Brown Shoe Company in Charleston until her retirement in 1991.
In November 1971 she married Clarence Leonard "C.L." Baker who survives of the home.
Also surviving is one sister, Carmen Witty of East Prairie, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford Smotherman, Clifton Smotherman, Cortell "Ted" Smotherman, James Smotherman, and Gary Smotherman; also two sisters, Faye Cardwell and Irene White.
Graveside rites will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dogwood Cemetery with Thomas Smotherman of East Prairie officiating.
On Sunday, January 25, 2015, visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in East Prairie beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Moore, pastor, and Rev. George White of East Prairie will officiate.
