MARY JANE BRUNER, age 67, died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at her residence in Bertrand.


She was born October 22, 1948 in Cairo, IL to the late Tom and Anna Stricker Bennett. A graduate of Charleston High School and member of St. Henry Catholic Church, she attended Draughons Business College in Memphis, TN then accepted a position working at Water Front Services in Cairo. She later moved to Kentucky where she was employed at Western Baptist Hospital until ill health forced her retirement.


Surviving are three children, Lee Ann (Michael) Groves of Bertrand; Tom (Alyssa) Bruner of Jackson, and Leslie (Brent) Thresher of East Prairie; two grandsons, Kyle (Chelsea) Bruner and Lawson Thresher both of East Prairie; one great grandson, Lane Bruner of East Prairie and another great grandson expected in December; one great granddaughter, Jerzie Wicker of East Prairie; three sisters, Nancy (Ronnie) Laster and Mary Jane Farris all of Barlow, KY, and Anna Doris Sacks of Arnold; three brothers, Linn (Judy) Berry of Lake Isabella, CA, Jerry (Betty) Holland of Bertrand, and Bill (Elizabeth) Berry of Cape Girardeau; many cousins, nieces and nephews; also a dear childhood friend, Ann McCuiston of Charleston.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Father Alexander Nwagwu, pastor of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, will officiate.


Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.


Honorary Pallbearers will be Emmett Groves, Billy Housman, Ronnie Laster, Anthony Sager, Joey Colson, and Scott Glenn.
