Obituary

MATILDA POLEY HEDGE, age 76, a resident of East Prairie, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.

Born June 24, 1938, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late Robert William and Jen Nettie Burnes Poley, she had lived in Mississippi County most of her life. She had been employed as In Home caretaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie.

On December 2, 1954, she married Melbourne Hedge, who preceded in death on January 1, 2006.

Surviving are three sons, Eddie (Karen) Hedge of Springville, TN, Dean Hedge of Pevely, and David (Becky) Hedge of Sikeston; one daughter, Kathy (Wendell) Johnson of Arnold; four brothers, Floyd (Sharon) Poley of Anderson, SC, George Poley of Sikeston, Delbert Poley of Matthews, Robert Junior Poley of Arnold; one sister, Peggy Harden of Sikeston; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Wendell Johnson Jr.; four brothers, Leonard Poley, Henry Poley, James Poley, and Melvin Poley; and three sisters, Bealuh Everly, Christine Parker, and Lola Hayden.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Rev. George White of East Prairie will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
