IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mattie Simpkins
Prince
August 5, 1927 – February 22, 2020
Mattie Elizabeth Simpkins Prince, 92, of Charleston, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at The Bertrand Nursing Home. She was born in Hornersville, Mo on August 5th, 1927 to Benjamin and Mary Jane Simpkins. She and James Frederick Prince were united in marriage on April 3, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1988.
Miss Mattie, as she was affectionately known by many, began her working career as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse teaching grades 1-7th grade. After 2 years of teaching, Miss Mattie found her true calling in banking. She worked at First Security State Bank (now known as Focus Bank) retiring after 45 years as Vice President.
Mattie was a member of The First Baptist Church in Charleston and every Sunday morning could be found worshiping in her "favorite pew" until ill health caused her to listen to the Sunday morning services on the radio. She started each day and ended each day in prayer and is now reunited with the love of her life and her Lord and Savior and rejoicing in her heavenly home.
Loving survivors include son, Dennis (Shannon) Prince of Springfield, daughter Mary Jane (Zac) Caldwell of Cape Girardeau, sister Berniece Thresher of Ballard County, KY half brother James (Linda) Simpkins of Louisville, KY; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Also survived by numerous nephews and nieces and special niece, Peggy Thompson who lovingly took her Aunt Mattie to her doctor's appointments and lived close enough to check on her daily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers: Jerry Bruce (JB), Carl Sr, Johnny and Roy Simpkins.
Visitation will be from 12-2:00 p.m with funeral at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at The McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston with Brother Gerald Collier officiating.
