Obituary

MAVIS NADINE ALMON, Age 85, of Charleston, died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born April 30, 1932, at Dunklin County, MO, to the late Albert Monroe and Eula Miner Furlong, she had lived in Charleston most of her life where she was a long-time member of the Elm Street Baptist Church. She was employed with the Brown Shoe Company for 29 years and later Stark Manufacturing Company for 15 years until her retirement.

On October 26, 1949, at Piggott, Arkansas, she married Orville Almon, who preceded her in death on August 31, 2009.

Surviving are one daughter, Debra Kay (Walter) Pollock of Sikeston; one sister, Alberta (Bill) Davis of East Prairie; six grandchildren, Lindsey Almon, Corey Almon, Todd Almon, Courtney Pollock Gibson, Walter Pollock, Jr., and Cullen Pollock; four great grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Orville Almon, Jr.; two brothers, Dalton Furlong and Billy Furlong and three sisters, Marcella Holmes, Lorene Watie and Caroline Furlong.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., at the Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston. Jon Archie, pastor, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
