MAXINE ELLEN THURMAN GEERS, Age 63, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at her home in Charleston.
Born August 5, 1946, at Charleston, Missouri, to the late Elmer William "Mike" and Pauline Christina Hart Thurman, she had lived in Charleston most of her life and was a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church. Throughout her life she had been employed as a waitress at Cross' Truck Stop, Johnnies Drive In, a Certified Nurses Assistant and also as a Physical Therapy Assistant until ill health forced her retirement.
She was married to James Van Cheesbrew and later Jessie Ray Geers who both preceded her in death.
Surviving are: two sons, James Eric Cheesebrew of Victorville, CA and Jerry Van Cheesebrew of Poplar Bluff, MO; one daughter and son in law, Jessica Renee and Scott Riley of Jackson; one brother, John Henry Thurman of Charleston; four sisters, Rose McClendon, Paula Meeks, Martha Humphrey and Gail Faire all of Charleston; one grandson, James Michael Lyles and one granddaughter, Anna Marie Lyles.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis Thurman, William Thurman, Joseph Thurman and by three sisters, Mildred Thurman, Delores Hawkins and Mary Loucretia Vinson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 12, 2010 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Rev. Glenn Eftink, pastor of St. Henry Catholic Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Dennis Ray Thurman, Denis Faire, Mickey Cox, Donnie Drury, Jeff Groves and Ben Schneider
