Michael "Mayor" Gene Stokes was brought into this world on June 23 of 1956. He passed on from this world on November 8, 2024 at the Sikeston Missouri Delta Medical Center ER.
He was born in June of 1956 in East Prairie, MO, to Nesby Stokes and Opal (Worthy) Stokes, who have both proceeded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sherry (Johnson) Stokes. Two children - Tara Rae, of New Madrid County & Skyler (Syvalla) of Perryville, MO. He is also survived by his four grandsons - AJ (Sophia) Smith, Elijah (Marcella) Smith, Khyrin Neal, Noah Neal, Tay Smith. His great granddaughter, Naomi Rey Smith & our newest bundle of joy who is due in 2025.
Mike was preceded in death by three of his brothers - Herschel, Freddy, & Stevie Stokes.
He is survived by his two other brothers - Kenny Stokes, of Billings, Montana; Johnny (Teresa) Stokes of East Prairie, MO; and Debbie Stokes of East Prairie, MO.
Mike loved to work and rarely ever missed a single day. He also loved to work in his yard and always had beautiful flowers along with his beautiful yard.
Now, while he loved working & making sure his yard & flowers were always perfect - He loved his grandkids more than anything else in this entire world & He never missed any school or sporting events for any of them.
Mike also left behind a HOST of friends, co-workers, and many other family members.
Arrangements are set for Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, at McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston, MO. Visitation will start at 4pm for family members and will be from 5pm-8pm for everyone else. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, November 13th, with brother Tim Farrenburg officiating.
Gravesite rights are to immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid, off highway 61.
