Mildred J. "Millie" Burnes, 88, a long time resident of Sikeston, died Monday, June 15 at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born June 14, 1927 at Marmaduke, Arkansas to the late Arthur and Zettie (Coleman) Qualls. She previously had lived in Michigan before moving back to the Sikeston area some 40 years ago; she was a member of Temple of Faith Church and had been employed as a greeter at Wal-Mart and the Foster Grandparents with Sikeston Public Schools. On July 4, 1981 she was married to Robert G. "Bob" Burnes in Sikeston and he preceded in death April 20, 2006. She was also preceded in death by 1 son, 2 daughters, 6 brothers, 3 sisters and 5 grandchildren. Survivors include 3 sons, Elmer "Moe" Forrester of Cahokia, IL, Stacy (Jody) Forrester of Sikeston and Mark (Paige) VanBrook of Walnut Ridge, Ark; 3 step-sons: Bobby (Tonya) Burnes of Marston, Steve Burnes of New Madrid and David Burnes of Sikeston; and by 1 step-daughter, Brenda King of Sikeston. Two sisters, Frances Durden of Sikeston and Melba Hamm of Rocky Ford, Colorado and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Visitation will be at Temple of Faith Church on Smith Street from 11 am until time for services at 1:00 pm Friday, June 19. Rev. Scott Sutton, pastor of New Life Assembly Church in New Madrid will officiate and Bobby Burnes will offer the Eulogy. Private family burial will follow at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston. Pallbearers will be Stacy Forrester, Mark VanBrook, Andrew VanBrook, Christopher VanBrook, David Burnes and Steve Burnes. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray expenses.
