Nancy Ellen Moss Bird, age 92, died Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Aspire Senior Living Center in East Prairie.

She was born March 8, 1933, to the late William Edward Moss and Madge Wilkinson Moss and in May of 1955, she married Charles Weldon Bird of Madison, MO, who preceded her in death, July 18, 1998.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Tom) Prigge of Paducah, KY; grandchildren, Josh and Stacie Zilafro of Indiana and great grandchildren, Ryker and Rigley Zilafro.  Also surviving are six nieces and two nephews and their families.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Ellen Bird Zilafro.

Nancy taught for 31 years, teaching choir, guitar and managing the high school band's flag and dance corps in East Prairie, retiring in 1985.  After retiring Nancy kept busy playing dinner music at the Sikeston Country Club and Ramada Inn Hotel, going to her Kentucky Lake house to fish, attending auctions and sales and eventually opening an antique business, The Bird's Nest.  She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family.  Nancy continued giving piano lessons for more than 40 years to local students. She was a member and past choir director of the Sikeston Community Choir, music director and 92 years member of the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church, and a choir director for European Students Travel for seven years. She loved gardening and was a longtime member of the East Prairie Garden Club.  In 2015, she was recognized as East Prairie's woman of the year.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in East Prairie.  Rev. Beth Allen, pastor, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
