NATHERN SANDERS GUTHRIE, Age 71, a resident of Charleston, died Tuesday, September 07, 2010 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born January 3, 1939 at Scottsboro, AL to the late Thomas and Vester Guffey Guthrie, he had lived in Mississippi County since 1956 where he was employed in farming and construction work until his retirement. He served with the U.S. Army from 1962 -1967 and was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Charleston.
On July 15, 1966, he married Mary Alice Neal who preceded him in death on June 7, 2007.
Surviving are: two sons and one daughter in law, Nathan and Maya Guthrie of Bertrand and John Guthrie of Benton; three daughters and one daughter in law, Alice Neal of Charleston, Manda and Lisa Chessor of East Prairie and Lisa Radica also of East Prairie; two brothers, Tony Guthrie and James Guthrie of East Prairie; seven sisters, Ruby Jones of Dogwood; Sue Guthrie and Kathern Haley both of East Prairie; Shirley Howton of Scottsboro, AL; Ruth Rhyne of Grant, AL; Elizabeth Wilson of Puxico and Patricia Day of Arnold; 6 grandsons, Dakota Linebaugh, Zachary Ketchum, Jeffery Ketchum, Blake Guthrie, Trey Guthrie, James Hurt; 2 granddaughters, Aleisha Ketchum and Rosemary Guthrie; two great granddaughters, Aiden Ketchum and Kamron Hurt and one great grandchild on the way in April of 2011. Also special friends, Becky Guthrie and Mary Louise Hampton.
One brother, Franklin Guthrie, preceded him in death.
Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. until the time for memorial service at 10:45 a.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie with Military graveside rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Program
Interment will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
