Obituary

NELLIE L. MORGAN GAGE, age 91, a resident of Scott City died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Lutheran Home Assisted Living Facility in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 18, 1918 in Datto, AR to the late C.E. and Pearl E. Fears Morgan.
In 1935 she moved to the Lusk Chapel Community in Scott County and worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston. She was a member of the Lusk Chapel United Methodist Church, transferring her membership to the Charleston United Methodist Church when the Lusk Chapel Church closed..She and her husband lived in Diehlstadt before moving to Commerce in 1953, and then to Scott City in 1955. She assisted her husband in the operation of their family farm until her retirement in 1983. Known by many for her exceptional cooking skills, she affectionately was named "the Queen of Cakes".

On September 5, 1942 she married Edward "Jack" Gage who preceded her in death on August 25, 1996.

Surviving are one son and daughter in law, Mickey and Barbara Gage of Jefferson City; two brothers, Floyd E. Morgan of Gorham, IL and Robert Morgan of Diehlstadt; four sisters, Lela L. Guthrey of Corning, AR, Vena N. Daughhetee, Dorothy McDowell, and Mary Bonifield all of Charleston; and one granddaughter, Sarah Gage of Canton, CT.

Three brothers, Warren "Jake" Morgan, Charles Morgan, and Merlin Morgan, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Rev. Dan Faust, Pastor of the Charleston United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Don Daughhetee Jr.,Tom Daughhetee, Adam Daughhetee, Caleb Daughhetee, Kenny Morgan, Bobby Morgan,Charles Morgan Jr.,Charlie Butler,David McDowell,Don McDowell,Jamie Conn,and Don Gage.
