Obituary

Nelson Berbling, age 68, of Sikeston, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

He was born November 24, 1953, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Theodore and Juanita Boyd Berbling.

Nelson was a graduate of Murray State University and a life-long lover of history. He was one of the founding members of the 8th Illinois Infantry reenactment group of Cairo, Illinois, and participated in living history for thirty years. He was a talented woodworker, blacksmith, and leathersmith, and could make just about anything his wife, Anne, wanted - including dinner. Nelson was an excellent cook and delighted in making wonderful meals for his family and friends.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Anne Launius Berbling; children Neil (Rebecca) Berbling of Bennett, Colorado; Jon Berbling of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Chris Berbling of Olive Branch, Illinois; Mark (Sharon Granger) Pratt of Sikeston, Missouri; Mandy Pratt of St. Charles, Missouri; and Katie Pratt of North Hollywood, California. Four grandchildren: Theodore William Berbling and Vivianne Berbling of Bennett, Colorado; Cody (Erika) Pratt of Kelso, Missouri; and Nicholas Pratt of Sikeston, Missouri. Two great-grandchildren: Beau Pratt and Kaden Pratt of Kelso, Missouri.

Four sisters: Sherry Gibson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Bernadine Roberts of Olive Branch, Illinois; Charlene (Pete) Halstead of Linton, Indiana; and Marcena Berbling of Anna, Illinois. Four nephews: Whitney Althoff and Corey (Julie) Althoff of Anna, Illinois; Bill (Leanna) Gibson and Steve (Barb) Gibson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; three nieces: Cara (Shane) Pribble of Anna, Illinois; Megan (Andrea) Halstead of Linton, Indiana; and Deena (Mike) Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee; as well as a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore Berbling II, his nephew Donnie Gibson, and his brother-in-law, Charles Roberts.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date .

McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
