Nephi L. "Chief" LaFontain, 94, died Monday Dec. 8, 2014 at the Miner Nursing Center. He was born Oct. 19, 1920 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the late Joseph August and Ethel Mae (Patterson) LaFontain. He previously had lived in Ardmore, Ok. and was a fireman, and carpenter and a former member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints; he later became a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Sikeston. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He had first been married to Etta (Love). He was later married to Betty L. (Husher) Andres on Oct. 17, 1981 in Sikeston and she survives of the home. Also surviving are 1 son & daughter-in-law, Douglas & Sharon LaFontain of Duncan, OK; 1 daughter & son-n-law, Joan & Anson Shuman of Ardmore, OK; 1 brother, Billy Emmitt of Bakersfield, CA; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 7 sisters. Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 5 till 7 pm Wednesday, Dec. 10. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday in the chapel with Rev. Allen Basham, pastor of Cape First Church of Sikeston officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
