Obituary

NEWTON EARLON 'RED' BUTLER, 87, died peacefully, Monday, July 2, 2018, at his home near Charleston, with his family by his side.

Born July 13, 1930, at Florence, Alabama, to the late James W. Butler and Mary Eddice Bradley Butler, he lived in California a number of years where he had his roofing business and enjoyed his race horses and going to the horse races. In 1966, he moved to Oregon and worked at a saw mill and in construction, He then moved to the state of Washington where he opened a construction business with his brother. In 1979, they moved to Charleston, MO and continued his work in construction and woodworking until his retirement.

They enjoyed traveling together and have been from Canada to Old Mexico and most states in the United States mainland. He enjoyed fishing, family and loved his favorite foods of catfish and rib-eye steak.

His favorite saying was "My worst day of fishing is far better than his best day of work."

On June 1, 1972, he married Jannie (Jan) Fry, and she survives of the home near Charleston.

Also surviving are their children, Patricia Ann Butler (Mike) Garrett of Chiloquin, OR; Sharon Lynn Butler (Con) Diewert of Tofield, Alberta, Canada; Connie (Clay) Yockey of Troy, Idaho; Jeff (Pam) Butler of Charleston and Steve Brenda) Butler of Jackson, MO; three brothers, L.C. Butler of Tucson, AZ; Kenneth Butler of Oakdale, CA and Bill Butler of Needles, CA; two sisters, Betty Jones of Blue Mountain, MS and Virginia Miller of Henigar, AL; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley A. Butler and James Butler.

Visitation will be from noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston. Rev. Gerald Penn and Rev. Larry Lacey, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Jude Small, Larry Butler, Billy Butler, Jerry Johnson, Floyd Butler, Kevin Boston, Tony Gorostiza and Robert Renaud.
