ORVILLE ALMON, age 85,a resident of Charleston, died at 11:45 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born January 21, 1924 in Roane Mountain, TN to the late Clyde and Flo Hopson Almon. He had lived in Charleston most of his life where he was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church. He served with the US Army during WW II, was a member of the Charleston V.F.W. and had been employed with Union Carbide Chemical Company in Paducah, KY until his retirement in 1982.
On October 26, 1949 he married Mavis Furlong who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son and daughter in law, Orville and Mickey Almon Jr. of Brentwood, TN; one daughter and son in law, Debra Kay and Walter Pollock of Sikeston;
six grandchildren, Corey Almon of Brentwood, TN, Todd Almon of Birmingham, AL, Lyndsey Almon,a student at Auburn University in Auburn, AL, Walter Pollock Jr. and Cullen Pollock both of Cape Girardeau, and Courtney Pollock (Josh) Gibson of Shawnee, TN; also two great grandchildren, Haley Gibson and Noah Gibson both of Shawnee, TN.
Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2009, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. Jon Archie, Pastor of the Elm Street Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Graveside Rites at the IOOF Cemetery. Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home
Pallbearers will be Lee Welch, Tom Humphrey, Jim Blumenberg, Eugene Frye, Wayne Davis, Jeff Davis,Wallace Reeves, and Jamie Pollock.
