BRENDA OVALINE "MIMI" O'ROURKE, age 88, a resident of Charleston died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in Cape Girardeau at The Arbors of Auburn Creek.
She was born at Alfalfa Center in Mississippi County to the late Everett Wright and Alma Wright Dockler. With her mother, she moved to Wyatt, MO and was cared for by her mother and NB "PI" Small until her marriage to Alphonse O'Rourke on July 8, 1940.
They ran a general store on Big Lake and raised six children. In 1979 they moved to Charleston. Mimi was a member of St. Henry Church, a supporter of St. Henry School, and a member of the Daughter of Isabella. She loved children, piano, dogs and cats, and all of her many friends, especially all who gathered at the table at Boomland.
Surviving are five children, Judith Borst of St. Louis, Joyce Ohmes, Michael (Ellen) O'Rourke, and Jayna Holley all of Charleston, and Jean Erwin of Greenwood, SC; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; and her special caretaker and friend, Ellen Crosier of Charleston.
Her husband preceded her in death on March 24, 1998. One daughter, Janice Holley, and one brother, Calvis Wright, also preceded in death.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston where Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Monsignor Richard Rolwing of Cape Girardeau and Father Maria Thumme, assistant pastor of St. Henry Catholic Church, will concelebrate the mass.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Ohmes, John O'Rourke, Mike Cuniff, Tyson Moyers, Dave Boyd, and James Conn.
