Paul Harrison Cornwall
(August 30, 1935 – December 10, 2009)

Paul Harrison Cornwall, age 74, a former resident of Charleston, Missouri, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.

Born August 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Dr. Harrison Hiram and Emma Pauline (Smith) Cornwall. He grew up in Charleston, attended the United Methodist Church and graduated from Charleston High School in 1953 where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was also in the Boy Scouts of America, received the Eagle Scout award and participated in the Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, PA in 1950. He attended the University of Missouri and was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He received a Bachelors Degree in Geological Sciences in 1959 and also served six years in the United States Army Reserve attaining the rank of Sergeant. In 1961, he married Shirley Ann Hatfield in Coffeyville, Kansas and together they had three boys: Bill, Steve and John. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he was a founding member of the "Coffeygrinders" drag racing club in Coffeyville, KS, along with good friend, the late Larry Pitts. He worked for the Missouri Pacific railroad in Coffeyville as a Civil Engineer and later in Kansas City, MO as a Surveyor. He was later employed in Kansas City at the Layne Western Co. conducting geologic core sampling. In Canada he was the General Manager for Home Rentals in the U.S. and Canada and eventually retired in 2005 after many years with the Ford Motor Company in Toronto. He was a huge motorsports fan who loved to travel to various racing events and was also a pit crew member on the Gary Elliott Racing Team in Toronto for several years. A lifelong sports and baseball fan, his favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals.

Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law; Daysie Margaret (Cornwall) and Theodore C. Beckett II of Kansas City, MO; three sons, William Harrison of Kansas City, KS, Steven Winslow (Monica) of Bedford, TX and John Benjamin Cornwall of Kansas City, MO; three grandsons, Steven Harrison of Kansas City, MO, Nathaniel Steven of Bedford, TX and Brandon Winslow Cornwall of Bedford, TX; two nephews, three nieces; seven grand-nephews and five grand-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents, William and Elizabeth (Harrison) Cornwall and maternal grandparents, Dr. Benjamin Thomas and Judith Margaret (Shattuck) Smith.

Friends and family will assemble at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston for a Graveside Memorial Service which will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 by Rev. Dan Faust, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Charleston.

A reception will follow at the United Methodist Church, 1700 E. Marshall Street in Charleston.
