Obituary

Peggy Ann Galemore Holman, age 75, of Anniston, MO, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2019, at her home.

She was born on June 21, 1944 in rural Charleston to the late Gilbert Clyde and Eva Marie (Laughlin) Galemore. She graduated from Charleston High School in 1962, and spent most of her life living and working in Charleston.

Peggy was survived by her daughter, Sheila Holman Babb of Anniston, brother Chuck (Carlene) Galemore of Cookeville, TN, sister-in-law Debbie (Steve) Unterreiner of Cape Girardeau, MO, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Arthur "Jimmy" Holman, Jr. and his father, James Arthur Holman, Sr., as well as siblings Alice (Galemore) O'Connor, Barbara (Galemore) Bethel, Warren Galemore, and Gordon Galemore.

Peggy was known for her strong work ethic, and spent most of her life working at jobs like ironing as a teenager, a flower shop, a cook in the Hearnes Elementary School kitchen, CB Forms, Charleston Walmart, and more. She recently retired completely from house cleaning at the age of 74.

Peggy found joy in simple pleasures, including gardening, bird watching, reading, cooking, and most of all, spending time with family. She was an example of strength, compassion, and unconditional love to all who met her. She was lovingly known as "Mamaw," especially to her grandchildren but also to anyone who needed a kind word, a plate of food, or a hug.

Peggy recently faced the diagnoses of stage 4 cancer and kidney failure with bravery, peace, and dignity. In her final weeks of life, Peggy was surrounded by family and friends, sharing memories, tears, and laughter, living life to the fullest.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2019, at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

At Peggy's request, there will be no funeral or graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help cover cremation costs may be sent to McMikle Funeral Home, 201 S. Center St., Charleston, MO 63834.
