Peggy Jane Smith Pazdera, age 85, died Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at her home in Sikeston.

Born September 10, 1937, at Canalou, MO, to the late Hollis Smith and Myoma Marie Gray Smith, she grew up in Mississippi County and was a graduate of Charleston High School.    As a young lady, she went to work with the Kinder Bakery in Charleston where she worked as a cake decorator.  After the Kinder's sold the business, Peggy continued with the next owners with what became the Charleston Bakery, eventually owning the bakery herself. For many years she attended St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston.   In 2015, she and her husband moved to Sikeston where she became a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston.

On December 29, 1959, she married Martin Edward Pazdera, Sr., who preceded her in death on September 27, 2017.

Surviving is her son, Martin Edward Pazdera, II, and his children, Karlie and Kaylynn Pazdera, all of Fort Worth, TX; and her daughter, Susan (Greg) Johnson and her children, JJ Grogan and Scott Johnson, all of Sikeston.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Montell Gray Stone and Herbert Marshall Stone.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2023, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.    Father Colby Elbert will serve as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.
