Obituary

PERRY RYLES MERRICK, age 86, died at 10:53 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010 at his residence in Charleston.

Born March 14, 1923 in Anniston to the late Paul and Ethel Austin Merrick, he was raised by his late Uncle Noel and Aunt Alice Pike. Following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic during WW II. In 1946 he moved to Chicago, IL where he was employed with W.E. O'Neil and was a member of Carpenters Union #1889. He returned to Mississippi County in 1986 and was employed with the city of Charleston until his retirement in 2005. He was Catholic.

In February 1942 he married Marie A. Carson who survives at the home.

Also surviving are two daughters and one son in law, Pamela Merrick and Michael R. Riviere of New Orleans, LA and Alma Ruth Cahanin of Aurora, IL; one sister, Evelyn Walker of Marietta, GA; five grandchildren, Kathy Gross of Boling Brook, IL, Brian Cahanin of Willow Springs, IL, Kelly Peplansky of Batavia, IL, Michael C. Riviere and Chloe M. Riviere both of New Orleans, LA; six great grandchildren, Marie Kayser, Mallory Kayser, Douglas Cahanin, Tyler Cahanin, Kyle Peplansky, and Madison Peplansky.

Four brothers, Truman Merrick, Joe Merrick, John Glenn Merrick, and Stanley Merrick, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Ron Winstead, Chaplain with VNA Hospice, and Donald Merideth of Charleston will officiate.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Missouri Military Honor Guard at the IOOF Cemetery. Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Harris, Jeff Renaud, David Merrick, Michael Merrick, Michael R. Riviere, Michael C. Riviere, Brian Cahanin, and Douglas Cahanin.

The family would like to thank Linda Stokes, VNA Hospice, Lori, Emma, and Sylvia
Roach, Wendy Pope, Barbara Miller, Tish Snider, David Harris, and the City of Charleston for their care and support.
