Rachel Slaughter Haney, Age 73, a resident of rural Charleston, died at 6:05 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Charleston Manor.
She was born November 19, 1935 in Fulton Co. KY to the late John D. and Grace Hodges Slaughter. She had lived in Mississippi County most of her life and was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston where she had been active in the Legion of Mary. She had worked as a secretary for St. Henry Catholic Church, Charleston Home Oil Co., Charleston R1 High School, and then worked several years at Delta Growers Association until her retirement.
On September 11, 1954 she married Dan Haney who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son, John Randall Haney of New Madrid, one brother, John M. Slaughter of Charleston; three sisters, Delores Wallace and Loretta A. Rudden both of St. Louis and Debbie Howard of Murray, KY; 5 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, "Casey".
She was preceded by one son, Michael Alexander Haney, and one brother, Richard P. "Ricky" Slaughter.
Friends may call at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, until the Funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Father Glenn Eftink, Pastor of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston will officiate.
Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be David Slaughter, Bryant Slaughter, Jerry Haney, Richard Haney, Darren Haney and Bill Haney.
