Raymond Allen Manker, age 76, of St. Louis, formerly of Charleston, died Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis.
He was born September 5, 1946, in the Snows Corner Community of Mississippi County, MO, to the late James M. and Helen V. Toombs Manker. He grew up in Charleston where he attended St. Henry Catholic Church and was a 1964 graduate of St. Henry High School. Ray then joined the U.S. Marines where he served from 1964 to 1968 during Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the St. Louis area and was employed as the building and grounds supervisor at St. Louis University High School for 26 years, retiring in 2007.
Surviving are his children, Melanie Manker, Michael Manker, Melissa (Brian) Kotraba; his grandchildren, Cooper Manker, Zach (Kaitlin) Ulmer, Christian Ulmer, Madeline Sturgess, Olivia, Levi and Liam Kotraba; great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Scarlett Ulmer; and a very special friend, Arleen Manker Harte, all of St. Louis, MO.
Also surviving are his brothers, David (Alpha) Manker of Charleston and Don (Dianne) Manker of Atoka, TN; his sisters, Norma (Jan) Sommer of Sparta, IL; Melba (James) Stricker of Lakeland, FL, and Judy (Gordon) Holzem of Paris, TN; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Ken and James.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
