Obituary

RAYMOND L. "BUDDY" MARSHALL, age 84, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his residence in Charleston.

He was born on September 29, 1926 in Blodgett to the late Raymond C. and Mary Mabel Witt Marshall. A resident of Charleston since 1933, he was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, a graduate of St. Henry Catholic High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was first employed at the Brown Shoe Company, and then received his insurance license, opened his office and served as an agent with MFA/Shelter Insurance Company for many years. He served Mississippi County as Public Administrator for twenty years. An Eagle Scout, Buddy served on the Southeast Missouri Boy Scout Council for a number of years; was a charter board member of the Charleston Nutrition Center and served on the board of directors of the Mississippi County Health Department.


He was the devoted husband of the former Norma Jean Skaggs, who he married on July 18, 1946 and who survives of the home.

Buddy was the loving father of two daughters, Deborah Marshall Kratky of Kendalia, TX and Ann Marshall of Boynton Beach, FL; he was the cherished "Paui" of four grandchildren, Edgar Marshall IV of Madison, MS, Katie Marshall Brown of Boca Raton, FL, Lauren Marshall Taylor of Huntsville, AL, Wesley M. Jackson of Pamplin, VA; and seven great grandchildren, Conner Jackson, Adeline, Ann-Campbell, and Emerson Brown, John Marshall and Wilson Hayes Taylor, and Mamie Katherine Marshall.

An avid sportsman, Buddy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising champion Beagle dogs. A man who could "walk with kings and never lose the common touch," Buddy was a kind and loyal friend.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with Monsignor Richard Rolwing of Cape Girardeau, and Father Glenn Eftink, pastor of St. Henry, serving as Celebrants.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home. Charleston Boy Scout Troop #323 will Post Colors for the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Edgar Marshall IV, Jonathan Taylor, Wesley Jackson, Dr. Hunter Brown, John Skaggs, Richard Rolwing, James Marshall, and Mark Dugan.
