Obituary

Rebecca Daphine Holt Story, age 89, a resident of Charleston, died December 21, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Charleston.

Born August 8, 1927, in Jesup, Arkansas, to the late Lo Byron Holt and Rebecca Jane Hillhouse Holt, she was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Story was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Mississippi County Library Board. She was a lifetime member of the Junior Study Club of Charleston and served as past president. Mrs. Story was a member of P.E.O. and was the 1983 Charleston Woman of the Year. For many years, she and her husband enjoyed their membership in the American Cut Glass Association.

On June 10, 1948, she married Sam Ernest Story, Sr., who preceded her in death on April 9, 2002.

She is survived by two children, Rebecca Jane Story Dugan and husband Mark of Charleston and Sam Ernest Story, Jr. and wife Mary Ellen of Sikeston, five grandchildren, James Holt Dugan of Dickson, Tennessee, Samuel Boothe Dugan of Shreveport, Louisiana, Madeline Grace Story Winkeler of St. Louis, Virginia Hillhouse Story of Sikeston, and Charles Joseph Cummings Story of Cape Girardeau, and two great grandchildren, William James Dugan and Jane Davis Dugan.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Louise Holt.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. The Rev. J. Robert Webster, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Charles J.C. Story, S. Boothe Dugan, J. Holt Dugan, Andrew W. Winkeler, Glenn M. Hillhouse, Jr., John R. Hillhouse, J. Frank Smith, Madeline Story Winkeler, Virginia H. Story and Frances H. Dugan.
