Reta Raye Sliger, 71 died Tuesday, Nov. 19 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Sept 10, 1942 at Trumann, Ark. to the late Roy Lee and Florence Odis (Chandler) Baker. She was married to Johnie E. Sliger June 5, 1960 at Morehouse and he survives of the home. She had worked as a lunchroom cook at Desoto County Schools and at other locations over the years. She and her husband moved from Southaven to Sikeston in 2007 to pastor at Illinois Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her husband she is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Melanie Jeanene Carnahan of Southaven and LeAnn M. & Rick Belew of Blue Springs, MO.; 4 sisters, Maxine Ray of Florida, Earline Nash of Memphis, Carolyn Walker of Sikeston and Emma Jean Eubanks of Kennett. Four grandchildren Kate LeAnn & Bryan Andrews, Aaron Michael Carnahan, Christina Sue Belew, and Joshua Kent & Brittany Belew. She was preceded in death by one son, Johnie E. Sliger, Jr. Feb. 13, 1984. Seven brothers and 5 sisters also preceded in death. Visitation will be from 5 till 8 pm Friday, Nov 22 at Blanchard Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Illinois Avenue Baptist Church with her nephew, Billy Baker from Trumann officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. Steve Dailey from Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Ford, Fred Sliger, Herb Sliger, Jim Sliger, Michael Sliger and Jeff Nahlick.
