Sikeston

Ronald Wilburn Shrum, was born July 28, 1938, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Wilbern Clarence Shrum and Jane Elizabeth Brown Shrum, and departed this life June 29, 2026, in Sikeston, Mo.

Ronald preached his first sermon at age 15, and his last sermon at age 83. He graduated high school in 1959 and that same year was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by First Baptist Church in Steelville, MO.  Ronald then worked hard to receive degrees from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO, Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. 

Over his 60 plus years of ministry he pastored churches in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Alaska. He served as Director of Missions for Black River Baptist Association in Kennett, MO and was a member of the Missouri Baptist Evangelist Association and held revivals throughout Missouri, Tennessee, Illinois, Mississippi, Florida, Kentucky and Georgia. Before suffering his stroke in 2023, he was on staff at the Miner Baptist Church in Sikeston, MO.

His great joy was preaching the Word of God, loving people and most of all sharing the Gospel. He had a desire for everyone he met to know the Jesus he loved and served.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Janis Slade Shrum. From this union they had four children, Rhadonda (Jon) Sedgwick, Kevin (Janet) Shrum, Eric (Teresia) Shrum and Angela (Rob) Tompkins; they were blessed with eleven grandchildren, Sarah (Keith) Beck; Caleb (Allie-Brooke) Shrum, Aaron (Allison) Sedgwick, Hannah (Caleb) Beussink, Rachel Sedgwick, Isaac (Allie) Shrum, Nathan Shrum, Rebekah (Jake) Ladd, Megan Shrum, Silas (soon to be Rachel) Tompkins and Josie Tompkins; there are nine great grandchildren, Avenly, Judah, Hudson, Eleanor, Huck, Ivy, Wilder, Slade and Eva; also, nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Darlene, Carol and Charley.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Miner Baptist Church in Sikeston, MO. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the church.

Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the Genevieve Baptist Church Cemetery near Weingarten, MO.

Ronald had a love for church camp and sharing the gospel with all ages through associational ministry, so In lieu of flowers, plants and gift items, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Charleston Baptist Association, 4855 MO-77, Benton, MO, 63736.
