REX EDWARD BURNEY, age 76, of East Prairie, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the home of his son near East Prairie, surrounded by his family.
Born July 16, 1945, in East Prairie, Missouri, to the late Bob and Imogene Thomas Burney, he lived in Dorena and East Prairie his entire life and was a 1963 graduate of Anniston High School.
Rex was employed at Noranda Aluminum for 37 years where he retired as general foreman in POT Services. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his son, everywhere from Alaska to Zimbabwe. Rex was a Vietnam veteran, being honorably discharged from active duty in 1967 and then honorably discharged in 1971 from the United States Army with the rank of Sgt. E-5.
On August 10, 1968, he married Monica Paulette Parr, who preceded him in death on August 4, 2020.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Rex is survived by his son, Rex Anthony (Jacque) Burney; granddaughter, Ali Kirby; brother, Clayton Burney as well as several nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2021, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2021. Martin Lucas will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Rex Burney, Clayton Burney, Eddie McDowell, Stan Hubbard, Eric Haines and Rob Barker. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Pritchett and James Haines.
