RICHARD HARRISON BOMAR, age 86, a resident of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born April 4, 1924 in Hickman,AR to the late Everett and Lucy Glenn Welch Bomar. He graduated from Diehlstadt High School and enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed in Topeka, KS and then Fr. Riley, KS before serving overseas in Japan, Greece, Turkey, India, Burma, and China as an Air to Ground Radio Operator. Upon return to the states in 1967 he was stationed in Springfield, MO and served in various capacities including recruiter He retired from 26 years of service in January 1969 and became a franchise manager for Charter Communications in Alamo Gordo, New Mexico and then Marion, IL. While in Marion he attended John A. Logan College and in 1973 went to work for Southern IL Power Coop in Lake Egypt, IL. Moving to Cape Girardeau in 1989, he was employed with Kinsey Agriculture until retiring in 2008.
On March 8, 1951 he married Dora Dean Shelby who survives of Cape Girardeau.
Also surviving are two daughters Alice Faye Bomar and Susan McDaniel both of Marion, OH;
one grandson and granddaughter in law, Rick and Becky Bomar of Cape Girardeau; two great grandchildren, Bethany Jo Bomar and Ryker Bomar both of Cape Girardeau; and two sisters, Wanda DeCaluway of Chicago, IL and Dean Hinchey of Paducah, KY.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Craig Bomar; one great granddaughter, Emma Dean Bomar; two brothers, Welch Bomar and Butch Bomar; and one sister, Wilma Sue Bomar.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. at the IOOF Cemetery north of Charleston with Father David Hulshof, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. Full Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force and the Missouri Military Honor Guard.
Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
