RICHARD P. SPITLER SR., age 75, died Thursday, January 31, 2013, at his residence in Bertrand.
He was born December 6, 1937 in Detroit, MI to the late Floyd and Louise Bennett Spitler. A veteran of the US Air Force, he was employed with the US Postal Service for 40 years, working in Gary, IN, St. Louis, and Memphis, TN before retiring in 2003. He moved to Bertrand in 2004. He had been involved with the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was extremely proud of the fact that his six sons all earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
On December 18, 1957, he married Deloris Meeks who preceded him in death on March 19, 2011. One son, Richard Paul Spitler, Jr, also preceded him in death.
Surviving are: five sons, Don Spitler of Austin, AR; Ron Spitler of Brighton, TN, Jim Spitler of Bartlett, TN, Larry Spitler of Munford, TN; and Joseph Spitler Sr. of St. Louis; one daughter, Kelly Goad of Bertrand; two brothers, David Spitler of Albuquerque, NM and Jim Spitler of Clinton, OK; two sisters, Delores Allen of South Bend, IN and Dorothy Kluska of Troy, MI; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Rev. Dan Faust, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Graveside rites at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston. Interment will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
